I was quite happy with this yellow-faced watch that I picked up in Japan late 2010; so much so that I was actually wearing watches! Like most people, I came to the realization that it was unnecessary to wear a watch now because your cellphone has a perfectly working clock; but if I had a good looking and complementary watch, I don’t mind wearing one (except maybe if I am going outdoors in the summer as that would give me a watch tan rather quickly).

Sadly, because that watch was rather “cheap” (made in China and then probably sold for a huge markup in Japan) that watch didn’t last very long. By the end of 2011, the paint was scratching off the sides of the face, since I knock my wrist against various things sometimes (walls, my sleeves, etc). Then it ran out of batteries – which is not a problem because I just ordered a bunch of watch batteries from China for cheap. Except, when I went to change the battery, one of the hands fell off as I was putting the back by on! So much for that watch, I threw it in the garbage after that.

That’s too bad, and I didn’t wear watches for awhile after that. But recently, I have gotten interested in watches again. For me, I’m not looking for expensive or name brand watches, nor technical quality in watches (although it is interesting, I don’t know enough about it yet). I’m primarily looking for fashionable and appealing watches – whether they’re from fly-by-night Chinese factories, top Chinese factories, or Swiss ones. I’ve bought a couple recently and will share why I like them (or don’t like them) in future posts.

But for now, I’d like to remember this watch that I threw away last year. I liked it because:

  • Had an eye catching (yellow) watch face
  • The numbers had a neat font that looked like it was from the future
  • It had a silicon band
  • It was cheap!
