A recent Smallville episode had a villain named Chameleon. He was an assassin for hire with the ability to reach people who are otherwise unreachable. He demonstrated his abilities by killing a key witness inside a locked room.
The trick behind his work is that he has the power to become invisible. Now being invisible is not quite being a chameleon and vice versa. Iguanas are chameleons because they are able to adapt their skin colour to the rock they are sitting on. But they can’t move around and still be somewhat invisible, whereas Chameleon was about the move around while remaining unseen. So the writers of Smallville chose the wrong name for this particular nemesis since it doesn’t make sense.
In any case, it does not explain how he can enter places that are otherwise inaccessible.
