A couple of years ago, there seemed to be a lot of music coming out of the UK that featured a single male singing ballads. People like Daniel Bedingfield (yes brother of Natasha Bedingfield), Kristin Leontiou, and Deepest Blue. Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of music from the UK that is dance-y, and jazzy that reminds me of Swing.

Smallville sometimes features a band (they had One Republic on this season) in order to seed it into its demographic. On a recent episode where Chloe was at a Black Tie ball, they played Duffy’s Mercy. I first heard this song when I downloaded it for free on iTunes. Here’s what it sounds like:

Another song, which I heard on the radio is Estelle’s American Boy. This track is very catchy and I think Kayne’s fake British accent makes the song. Without him, this song would just be so-so. Mix 99.9 claims it’s the only radio station that plays it — doesn’t matter in the Internet age. My blog can play it:

The best example is perhaps Amy Winehouse, but I’m not including her in this because she was originally a Jazz artist (although she may have started the trend).
