I explained my reasoning behind purchasing the 2GB instead of the 1GB shuffle in my previous post about buying an iPod Shuffle, but I still have an internal conflict about whether it was worth it to buy the 2GB version. Sure, from an economical value standpoint, I definitely got more bang for my (stronger Canadian) buck. But I don’t think I’ll ever use the second gig of the memory!
My 100-song playlist, typically weighs in at about half a gig, and even when I increase the playlist to 200 songs, it’s only slightly over a gig. At this point, there’s about 10 hours of music on a device that has a rated battery life of 12 hours. Since my playlist algorithm intelligently picks the songs to minimize skippable tracks, I can listen to my ~1GB playlist at most twice.
I think in this case, the marginal utility of the extra storage wasn’t worth the cost, but it’s hard to resist a bargain when you’re Chinese!
