It was a long and scary road during the Olympics for the Canadian hockey team, but they thankfully made it to the gold medal game. Today was the day of the game and it seemed like all of Canada was behind them. Unfortunately for us, we had some plans in the afternoon so could not watch the game! Does that mean I’m not a hockey fan? or not patriotic?

Well we did catch the score on the radio, 1-0, 2-0, then 2-1 for Canada. And 680News played the last 1:17 from the game where we heard that Zach Parise beat Luongo with about 20 seconds left to send the game to overtime!

We happened to going to a Chinese mall, so we went up to the food court and watched overtime on TV. It was a bit surreal that a bunch of Chinese people were gathered around watching a hockey game! But there they were, cheering when Crosby scored the gold medal winning goal 7:40 into overtime!

Crosby has been the face of the Men’s team in this Olympics. But he hasn’t been the star of the team (e.g., he hasn’t been a point machine like Iginla). But he has found a way to score when it counts, such as beating Hiller in the shootout to give Canada a win over Switzerland. His goal today will be one of the legendary goals of Canadian hockey, on par with Paul Henderson’s goal in 1972

More importantly this clutch goal by Crosby builds his legend and he becomes a Canadian hockey hero. It reminds me of Gretzky and Lemieux, who were the best players in their generation, and how they teamed together to give Canada the win in 1987.
