Once we were checked in, the plan was to see the things to the east of our hotel. So we headed off to St. Paul’s Cathedral via Tube. I took some photos outside and looked around the foyer, but we felt it wasn’t really worth it to pay to see the inside (plus you couldn’t take pictures). A lot of gold trim though.

Following that, we went down across the Millenium Bridge and to the Tate Modern. The Tate Modern housed an interesting art project which consisted of stacked white boxes. We could walk through the project to enjoy it which we did. It was interesting to say the least. Then we took a little time to explore some of the other modern art available, there was surprisingly only a small collection given the size of the building. The most interesting piece was probably a cylindrical/parabolic/ceramic chamber that you could walk into which stretched the reflection of your face, blocked your peripheral vision and reflected sound towards you. Tricky, tricky for your brain.

We continued East, past the recreation of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, criss-crossed some bridges over the Thames, took a side trip to see The Monument (more info) and then arrived at the Tower of London. By this time however, the attraction was closed although I doubt I would have paid the hefty admission to go in. So again, took some pictures and looked across the Thames at the Tower Bridge.

We then crossed Tower Bridge, which is probably the most famous bridge in London. We had spied London city hall from across the river, but I thought that it looked more like Samus’ ship than a public building. We went in for a quick look and to kill some time as we wanted to wait until it was dusk. There is some design built into the city hall, something about preventing the building from getting too hot when the sun shines through the numerous windows. Too tired to figure it out thought. Anyways, but the time we were done, it was dusk and raining but we still got off some neat photos.

After a fast dinner, we took the tube to Waterloo station to see the British Airways London Eye. I had never heard of it until i did some research for the trip, but apparently it’s a big ferris wheel on the Thames. After some more night photography, we headed back to the hotel to rest our tired feet. In retrospect however, we probably should have took a ride on the London Eye, regardless of whether it was foggy or not. Oh well, i guess that’s for the next trip.
