The random question on my mind today is why Chinese people wear slippers? Is it because the floor is dirty? because it’s not really. We take off our shoes before entering the living area and our culture is relatively clean compared to others in the world. Is it to seem taller? Chinese people are relatively short and that extra inch or two makes us almost as tall as short White people.

I think the best reason is that the floors are cold so we don’t want to walk with our barefoot on the ground. Rumor has it that there are a lot of uncarpeted floors in HK which is where this behaviour gained momentum? I don’t know, I’m talking out of my ass here at the moment. But if that is the case, then why don’t we just wear socks? they cover more surface area, are a closer fit, and anecdotally will make you feel warmer overall. Plus, we can’t rule out the fun it is sliding around hard wood floors on socks!
