the nintendo ds, nintendo’s new (but not next generation) handheld is coming out in november; and i’m tempted to drop the big bucks on this thing. it’s kinda important to stress that the nds isn’t gba part deux; but similar to how gba sp was a evolution in form factor over the gba, the nds is an evolution in gameplay over the gba. the couple of key differences that it has is that it has dual screens, a stylus and wifi capabilities. this makes it seem like a next generation handheld, but from what i’ve been reading on the web, it isn’t really.

anyways, aside from all these cool features, the real test of a system is the games, and it seems like the release titles on the system are somewhat out of the ordinary. aside from the normal racing and sports games, you have games where you play a surgeon (with your stylus surgical utensil), you have wario world style mini games and weirdo japanese psuedo dating games. i’ve blogged before about how i’m not really interested in playing “normal” games anymore (1, 2), so i think the fact that they have some odd games gives the nds potential in my mind.
