xmen 2 ended up being pretty good (sidenote: why do they call it x2? it’s not that much shorter than xmen2 and reminds me of those wireless cameras). it had a lot of what i tend to call tng-style writing; you have a lot of seemingly insignificant events that happen, but at the end all the plot threads are tied up and those events make sense. it’s that type of writing that made tng great, and why the newer star treks suck; it’s like they think americans can only keep one plot thread going in their minds now.
so between the multiple plot threads and many cameos by people in the marvel universe, it was a great comicbook fan flick. maybe that’s why i liked it so much. i did find it odd that the third movie was being foreshadowed throughout the whole thing tho! i guess fox realized that the only movies that make a lot of money now are franchises like bond, star trek, star wars, lotr or matrix. it would be pretty cool if xmen had the longevity of the bond franchise, but then each movie would seem more like a really expensive episode than a feature film.
the trailers beforehand were very comicbook/geek oriented. there was the hulk, matrix, an animated sinbad and the league of extraordinary gentlemen. the hulk looked less fake on the big screen than the downloadable trailer, but it still looks like it’s going to suck. the matrix was better! sinbad i don’t really care about cuz it’s for kids and leg looked pretty cool. i’ve never heard anything about it but i might watch that instead of the hulk.
