i was browsing a site with links to blogs around toronto; it’s pretty cool because blogging isn’t considered location-centric since you do it on the web, but when you find a blogger who’s situated near you, you can associate to more of the stuff they say. it doesn’t always work because they don’t necessarily write about things that are related to where they live, but at least they’re culturally similar to you.

the implementation of the concept is pretty neat too. instead of having the user enter their location based on their city or other identifier, they rely on longitude and latitude coordinates that you hide in meta tags on your blog. it takes a bit of time to figure out what the coordinates are for your site, but you avoid the issue of people using different spellings or suburbs instead of cities, etc.
