it’s neat, i think the dreamcast will be this generation’s cult console like the atari or amiga of old. i found a couple of cool fan-run development projects on the net. first, there’s a project that produces a divx (and other codecs) boot disk so (pirated) movies can be played thru the dreamcast. that’s pretty cool, it’s like the ps2/xbox’s ability to play dvds+games, but cooler. the only drawback is it doesn’t support high resolution/sound compression but i guess the cpu can only go so far. there’s also a lot of emulation being developed for dreamcast, they have an snes one which means i can burn 100 roms onto a cd and play it thru my dreamcast. very convenient and cool!
i more or less attribute this to the fact that i have a camera (kinda like how when you buy a new computer, newer & better technology shows up the next day), but it sounds like they made a monumental breakthrough in digital photography. before, ccd’s detected only one of the three primary colors and interpolate the rest to produce an image. But foveon have developed a chip that captures light like a human eye does — it detects all three colors without interpolation. so the end result is a more detailed and vivid picture. fortunately, it’s going to take some time for the chip (and price) to drift to consumer levels so i won’t have to buy a new camera soon; tho i don’t think a better sensor will help my horrible photography skills.
