I’ve been playing a new Android game called TripleTown. It was apparently a Facebook game before, but I had never played it. It is a puzzle with some cute graphics, where you need to combine 3 touching items in a town to form a larger version of the item. 3 pieces of grass form a bush, and 3 bushes form a tree, etc. The puzzle aspect comes when you run out of real estate to form your combinations and the game eventually ends.

It is an addictive game because each time you upgrade your item, you get a mini-reward in that you get a better item. And you want to see what is at the top of the pyramid, but it’s difficult to combine all your items in such a way to reach the peak item.

I also like how they’ve chosen to monetize the game. The game itself is free, but there are a limited amount of turns (I think you start with 1000+). Each time you play an item, you use a turn and eventually you will run out of turns. The turns regenerate slowly, up to a max of 150 – so if you want to keep playing, you will need to pay for a $3.99 upgrade that will give you unlimited turns. Of course, you can take the cheap and patient approach, and just play a few minutes every couple of hours too.
