Probably the most well-known mobile game is Angry Birds. It might even the best mobile game at this point in history. Everyone likes it, it’s great, yadda yadda. But why?

Frankly I played it on my phone, on my tablet, on the web using HTML5 and it’s not that fun! It reminds me of that old tank/canon game where you had to blow up your opponent sitting on a far hill, by either blowing up the canon itself, or blowing up the ground beneath it. It’s not a new idea, but an old idea that has been prettied up. I get that there is an easily attainable reward (finish the level), yet there is sufficient difficulty for hard-core gamers. But that, in itself, shouldn’t be enough to give Angry Birds such critical acclaim and audience?

There is not much story, and while there is variability, the game premise doesn’t provide much flexibility to do your own thing. You don’t have any opponents, you can’t play against yourself, you’re just practicing aim and touch abilities. The game is not actually that great “to kill a few minutes of your time” because it takes awhile to load. I don’t understand why people think it is a great game.
