The NHL Entry Draft is less than 10 days away. There is no Crosby or Ovechkin being draft this year, so there is actually some excitement since we don’t know who’s going first overall. The sure-fire #1, John Tavares, is now only a favorite.
It’ll be an exciting time for a Leafs fan because Maple Leaf general manager Brian Burke has publicly stated that he wants to draft Tavares. The only problem is that Toronto has the seventh pick. If it does happen, then we can expect to see some former Leafs next season, playing in Tampa or Long Island. This is the second chance for Brian Burke to start rebuilding the team (the first was the trade deadline in which nothing happened). I just hope that he doesn’t turn the Leafs into the Toronto Ducks, although we’ve already started adding “grit” with last season’s acquisition of Brad May from…you guess it, the Ducks.
