I’ve had two useless desktops computers sitting around my parents place for a long time, and they’ve been bothering me to get rid of them since before I moved out. I’ve looked into donating them to charities, specifically the Little Geeks program in Toronto. Unfortunately for them, they make it really hard to donate, being open only during office hours. I would have loved to give my computers to charity, except if I’d really have to go out of my way to do it, then I just won’t.
I ended up recycling them this weekend. Victor IMed me in the morning and mentioned that he had recycled a bunch of computer equipment at a Dell Earth recycling event, and got a 10% off coupon for doing so. Although, I wasn’t interested in the coupon, it was a convenient way to dispose of my computers.
Arriving at the Dell parking lot, it was a very streamlined process. You just pull up to a bunch of trucks, and there were people who unloaded your trunk. You didn’t even need to get out of your car! I was in and out of there in 2 minutes.
