Reviews that blessed Iron Man, nearly killed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I was excited about seeing this movie before it came out, but since people said it wasn’t that great, I started thinking that maybe I didn’t need to see this one in theatres. However, Pauline still wanted to watch it so we went this weekend.

I don’t actually recall any of the previous Indy films, although I may have seen them when I was a kid and it has just been too long. So watching Indy 4 was like a fresh story with little prequel baggage. I didn’t think it was as bad as people said, and in fact it was a fun summer blockbuster. If you get stuck up on continuity and common sense, this movie would be horrible. There are many scenes where Indy disappears for a couple of seconds and knocks out half an army, or utilizes his superhuman powers off screen to catch up with the action. It totally makes no sense, but keeps the plot flowing.

One thing that is quite noticeable is that the movie is a throwback. It’s set in the 50s and looks that way – apparently Spielberg did not film the movie digitally and tried to limit the use of CGI. It has a bit of retro charm and is not a waste of $10. I’d rate it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
