My copy of Hot Fuzz was procured from PacMall awhile back and as all things from shady places, you would expect it to be not entirely perfect. It started with potential, the Universal logo looked to be pretty good quality, but when the title menu came up, in Russian, things didn’t look good. Fortunately for me, there was an English audio track and English subtitles. But being shady, the audio track sounded like it was ripped from another (mono) source and tacked on. And the subtitles, well let’s just say it was subbed like the back of those DVD labels.
I somehow did manage to make it through those difficulties and enjoyed it. Hot Fuzz is about a super-efficient police officer, who due to his success, is promoted from London to a small backwards town. The first part of the movie comedically portrays how he survives in a place where crime enforcement is just not that strict. Maybe it was the audio problems, or because I didn’t it find it all that funny, or due to my lack of knowledge of cop action movies, or because I was also playing DS at the time; but I thought it was rather slow.
The movie picks up considerably at the end for the final action sequences and redeems Hot Fuzz. Although I wouldn’t watch it again due to the first hour and a bit, I think it’s a valid 3 out of 5 stars.
