This summer, I’m not in Waterloo (which is incredibly fortunate since I don’t have air condition there), but I’m doing an (unpaid, boo) internship at IBM. It’s been an effort to get a groove going however, because I’ve had a lot of intended and unintended breaks in the middle. I was there for a week, then off to China, then there for a week, then off to France, then Canada Day. Finally I’ve been able to put some time into what I should be working on.

So what am I supposed to be working on? Well I’m up at the software lab at 8200 Warden Ave, which primarily does stuff related to DB2, Websphere, and compilers (so I hear). Not really the stuff that I am passionate about. My feeling about IBM in any case, is that they’re a big conglomerate which produces software and services to large, faceless corporations; which feels far from the consumer-centric world I live in.

What I am surprised about however, is the intiatives within IBM to do more Web 2.0 stuff. They have an internal blogging system complete with tags, RSS, and other goodies as well as a social bookmark system similar to del.icio.us. Anyways, that is pretty cool.

Also, to tag onto this post. Previously, I have made it a point to not blog about work, and only blog briefly about personal matters. I think I will move away from that policy because it helps me fill in those empty blogging days, and well it’s more interesting isn’t it?
