I’ve had my current desktop for quite a long time, and while I don’t use it as my primary computer anymore, it is still valuable as a file store/media player. When I had been using my desktop daily, I would have to deal with all sorts of annoying problems. The CPU fan kept being flakey until I finally just tore it off (yes so now I’m running without a fan), and my power supply blew because of too much dust. The latest problem is with my video card.
It’s one of those no-name brands built off an NVidia chip and it’s starting to act worthy of its no-name name. It had taken to displaying garbage and hanging after being used for awhile, to now not even outputting anything to the monitor. So it looks like I need to replace it with my old AGP card that I have lying around in a box…somewhere.
Although I can hardly complain, I’ve had this box since I started university, so almost 6 years now. Considering the replace cycle is probably around 3 years, I probably squeezed it for it’s worth.
