I went to a talk by some guy from Nortel in the Fall and they were passing around a paper (for only ECE students) to sign. Kind of weird, and I thought not too much about it.

It turns out that it was part of a pilot program to see whether it should be mandatory for us to attend 3 seminars per term. Of course, it is now mandatory which I think it’s pretty dumb.

Even more retarded is that 1) the seminar has to be from someone outside of UW and 2) you need to get the faculty organizer to sign a statement saying that you indeed attended the seminar.

It seems to me like a glorified attendance list. Welcome to kindergarden. Oh yeah, I pay for this too.
