as many of you know, i am very fond of the way my alma matter does things. so i am pleasently surprised when the administration has decided that the solution to preventing 20% of the first year class from dropping out is to lower the graduating standard. i would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the math faculty for its integrity in actually assigning low marks to 20% of the first year students and putting them on probabation. i would have thought that the importance of keeping the tuition coming in from these students would case the faculty to elevate the marks and so everyone can receive scholarships. in fact they’ve turned this whole situation around into showing that waterloo does have high standards; but if you don’t work hard they will still find a way to get you that degree.
more rants about waterloo:
• waterloo is a technology hellhole
• what i really learned in university
• spending money in useful places
• the un-implemented solution to stupid labs
• the university is suing …its federation of students?
