is it just me or has cnn missed the boat by like 5 years on this one. it’s 2004 and they’ve decided to run an intro article on dance dance revolution. get with the program already, i was playing that in high school (which was at least five years ago), and i showed up fashionably late to the party. you’ve probably heard me talk about how i’m tired of the “normal” games (your fps, strategy, side scrollers etc) well ddr was totally different; it was original and that made it fun. plus, how many games have you played that was strenuous for anything other than your thumb? although i was never as hard core as the people you see showing off in the arcades, i spent a lot of my gaming time playing it.

i don’t play anymore but that’s not without regret. i know some people were turned off by the physical element of it, but even sitting around and watching others play, we could all share laughs about it. it was one of the best party games and was good times all around. anyways after playing for a couple of years, i thought it was time to move on. you can only play a game so much before you get bored of it. but looking back i think that for me, this was my pacman; it changed my whole idea of what games had to me.

it’s startling how much of an impact this game has on people (well, positive impact unlike games such as cs). the cnn article mentioned obese americans who lost weight playing the game (which i suspect is why they published this article), there are exercise programs based on ddr, something about an anti-couch potato movement in video games, and finally there’s the story of a kansas city ddr dancer whose had the best of times and the worst of times because of ddr.
