when i first saw the trailer for sky captain, it seemed like it could be something special due to its stylistic film noir nature. even after it came out, i was enthusiastic about seeing it since rotten tomatoes rated sky captain at 73%. well when i actually got around to seeing it, the film noir style got old real quick (everything was glowing thus blurry) and what was left was your lame-o action film. aside from the genre story, the acting was very wooden. i know that the built-in excuse was that every scene was shot against a green screen so the actors couldn’t “get into character” but they’re professionals so they should be able to generate at least a bit of chemistry. anyways yes, this movie is for 12 year olds.

this was also the first time i watched a movie down here. one thing i’ve noticed is that they don’t have those crazy big box stadium seating style movie theatres down here, ticket prices are still only $8.50 (in USD tho), and there are no cheapie tuesdays. the theatre we went to had a retro style look, but i don’t think that they decorated that way on purpose, but rather they haven’t redecorated since the 60s. it was a very sad experience overall, the show was only about 5% full and every single one of their previews still had the green MPAA warning before it.
