it’s funny how eric duhatschek said that the stanley cup winning penguins from the 90s (sans mario) are avaliable at the trade deadline, you know jagr, kovalev, nedved, kasparaitis, lang, francis + anyone still left on the penguins.
the senators getting bondra (or philly getting zhamnov) certainly isn’t good news for the leafs. i read some comments on tsn complaining how john ferguson jr should’ve gotten him for the leafs, but from both a money and a skill standpoint, that was a good decision. think about our forwards: sundin, mogilny, nolan, roberts, nieuwendyk, tucker, reichel, stajan, domi, fitzgerald, renberg, antropov. if they’re all healthy, who are you going to sit to let bondra play? you wouldn’t sit nieuwendyk since he’s good defensively and at faceoffs, you don’t want to sit tucker, domi or fitzgerald since they bring some toughness to the team, reichel’s been having a good year, so it’d have to be one of stajan, antropov or renberg (if you watch enough coach’s corner, renberg would be a shoe-in). i don’t think it’s worth the money or prospects to replace one of them with bondra, keeping in mind that pat quinn plays all four lines equally. what i think the leafs need is gonchar, and a good goalie if belfour remains injured. but don’t listen to me because i don’t really want the leafs to win the cup.
