paul kariya reminds me of ray bourque. he’s played his entire career on a mediocre ducks team and has never had a chance to hoist the stanley cup. i think it’s every player’s dream to win the cup, and the fact that kariya hasn’t jumped to greener pastures in today’s free agent market says a lot about his character. but in the end you feel sorry for the guy because his loyalty prevents him from achieving his dream. tho for inspiration, he needs only to look to bourque who won the cup in 2001 (albeit with colorado) and was finally able to retire.

this year the ducks are the cinderella team of the playoffs, and after nine seasons kariya finally has a chance to win it all. unfortunately i don’t think they can topple the devils. it’s hard to justify my choice as the ducks have everything going for them in this second season. i think their goalie, giguere has played so well that he may end up winning the conn smythe as mvp for the playoffs even if the ducks don’t win the cup.

but i just have that feeling about this new jersey team. they’ve been good for a couple of years now and i think they’ve tinkered enough with their roster that they can play whatever style their opponent throws at them. i’ve been hitting .500 on my predictions so far, let’s hope my last one will push me over that mark.
