when mozilla 1.0 came out, i really hoped that i could’ve replace outlook express with the mail app in mozilla. but when i tried it out, i was disappointed that it wasn’t very polished; it had some good features, but it was still lacking some of the features that i enjoyed in oe. so now that mozilla 1.3 was released, i gave it a try again. it might be that i have lowered expections or because i can’t remember why i didn’t like it in 1.0, but it feels like a much better mail program now.
aside from the virus problems that plague oe (which never happened to me), it’s a solid program. it’s quick and does everything i needed from it. the only thing that bothered me is how it stored to mail; it was in one of microsoft’s proprietary format so if they ever do something funny you’re up the creek. i had been searching for awhile for something that had oe’s speed and stored mail in an open format but there seems to be no such thing out there. newayz, mozilla stores mail in the mbox format which is as open a standard as you’re gonna get, plus i didn’t have to be wary of virii so i made the switch.
