seemingly overnight, google has transformed from some sort of utility-first, geek project into a corporate entity. whilst google was successful the last few years, they did a lot of things right by not doing a lot of things. recently however, they have started engaging in acquisitions, sent out a “friendly” cease & desist for using the term to google, and received a patent on their search algorithm. while mergers and acquisitions aren’t inherently bad, a lot of companies get bad press about enforcing internet-based patents and using cease and desist letters to prevent free speech. seeing google employing these tactics is really out of their character, not to the extent that it taints their image, but if they continue i may have to look at them with an evil eye. fortunately for us, even if google does defect, evil still has a ways to go before it defeats good
