i’ve read a lot and talked about how clearchannel’s screwing up radio, but here’s an article that describes some of radio’s troubles without discussing clearchannel directly. it’s interesting how they say in an hour of fm radio, there’s an average of 18 to 22 minutes of commercials; that’s a third of the time! newayz it goes on to describe xm, similar to satellite-tv but for radio. too bad it costs $9.99 per month; i don’t think people will jump at adding another monthly bill for something that has been free since they were born.
on top of that, radio is useful because it’s free. you could pick up anything that had a radio tuner, take it on the go, and still be able to listen to music & news. with xm, you have to purchase a xm receiver in order to listen to xm stations. if you wanted a device that you could take on the go, you’d probably have to buy one that had an xm receiver in it at additional cost. you lose the flexibility of radio and end up paying infinitely more. i think this idea’s going to flop, but hey, how can i argue with the (stupid) people who invested in this stuff.
on the subject of free music, is this guy sincere in saying this, or just trying to anger his record company?
