I’ve been playing Ghost Trick for a little while. It’s an adventure/puzzle game where you have died and then you have to use your spirit who has to solve several mysteries (such as your death) by animating inanimate objects in specific ways. I had to buy it and it’s pretty good and here’s why:
- While there are in-app purchases, it was a premium game rather than a freemium game. I don’t get pestered by having to pay
- The publisher, Capcom, had a sale over the holidays so you could unlock the entire game for only 0.99¢ instead of $15
- The premise is quirky and unique. Also the dialog, art and design is clearly Japanese in origin (no awkward translations yet)
- There is a decent plot, so it’s not simply a puzzle game
- The puzzles are not too hard (yet?) and can be tackled in bite sized morsels. You don’t have to play the entire game at once
This game is kind of like a coffee table book. You can play 15 minutes, then come back to it next week and play some more – but each play is fresh because the story keeps advancing with each puzzle.
