I haven’t tried a lot of new games recently as I’ve still been busy with Happy Street, but here are 2 others that I’ve played.

The first I downloaded because it was free on launch day due to a Kickstarter promise. The game is the port of Carmageddon to Android. I heard about this game when it was released back in the day, and had wanted to play it. But the disks never got to me so I never had a chance to play it. Now that I have, I’m not that excited about it – but that’s because gaming has evolved. Back in the day, it would have been fun as GTA (and running over pedestrians) wasn’t around yet. The game itself seems kind of easy (I think I was playing on medium difficulty) and I had no trouble wrecking my opponents. The option to “finish” the race is also pretty easy – there’s no concept of place so you just have to complete the laps within the time limit (and the timelimits increase pretty quickly if you do some damage to your opponents). Finally, I accumulated money easily and was able to buy the upgrades as soon as they were available, not that they really changed how the game was played. It was fun to try because I wanted to play it in the past, but not fun on an ongoing basis.

The other game is an adventure game called Yesterday. It’s like King’s Quest or Police Quest of yester-year but more occult and French. Like those games, I find that you get into instances where the “find the item and use it in a certain way” gets kind of non-obvious. And of course, you have to do things a certain way in order for the story to proceed. In that way it is kind of frustrating. But if you view it as an interactive story it’s not too bad (there are obscure hints too). The game is free (ad supported) so worth a try.
