i saw spirited away yesterday, it was very much hyped up as it’s going to be released by disney shortly. i wasn’t sure what to expect, because i also saw akira recently and well…that was just screwed up; it was too philosophical or something or another for me. spirited away started off weird too, well it never really got any better but i liked the style more than akira. there were also scenes that were done really well due to a combination of music and imagery; some of the best scenes i’ve seen in a long time. but i don’t know, the fact that the story is out there kind of detracts from any ability to connect with it at all. it’s kind of surprising that it got a rating of 98% (so far) on rotten tomatoes but i think it might be another case of the crouching tiger thing where the american public hasn’t been exposed enough to a particular genre. oh well, i think it was revolutionary enough (for me) to add it to my buy-when-it-comes-out-on-dvd list
