Lately, the only Android game that I’ve been playing is Townsmen 6 by HandyGames. I tried a few of their other games but this is the only one which I found interesting to play. Again, I downloaded this game for free from the Amazon appstore, but there’s an ad-supported version on the Android Market.

The premise of this game is that you are raising public support for a revolution in France. You start by building up in the south of France, before gradually heading north and into Paris. This is a RTS game, where you have to build buildings, research, and follow a tech tree; but it’s different in that there is no real combat. Later in the game you do have troops, but there is only one variety and they either defend, attack, or do nothing.

Instead, you spend most of your time building your town and industry in a manner to reach the end goal. You mine resources (rocks, wood, food, grain) in order to build up technological resources (tools, bread, weapons). Many of the levels are time-based and a bit of a challenge until you figure out the right order. It takes a bit of exploration to understand which shortcuts you can take and what needs to be done, which makes the game a bit more interesting.

It’s not a game which you could play while waiting in line because at certain points it gets a bit intense, but overall it is enjoyable. The small problem I have with it is that the UI is not that intuitive, and certain buttons (arrows) are difficult to press. I probably wouldn’t spend the $1.39 to buy it from the market though.
