I haven’t been keeping up with music lately, but still pay attention to iTunes (due to FiD). I noticed one day that The Strokes were releasing a new album! I’m a big Strokes fan, I have all three of their albums so this was great news! I previewed Angles when it came out earlier this month.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with this 5.9/10 review from Pitchfork for Angles. The album isn’t very good. It sounds like the Strokes, but hardly any of tthe songs are catchy. If what the Pitchfork article is true, that Julian Casablancas stepped back from controlling the Strokes’ songwriting, and the album is a more collaborative effort, then that is bad news – the Strokes’ individual albums were as boring as Angles!
I also found out that Chicane has had not one, but two albums that I missed. The last “album” from them that I was aware of was Easy To Assemble, which was never released because it was pirated too much! I took a listen to their latest, Giants, and they haven’t evolved much from the original sounds – which is great! Too bad there’s no chance to buy Giants in North America.
