Google handed out 100,000 invites a little while back so the world can start trying out Google Wave. I wasn’t one of the initial 100,000 nor did I beg/pay/ask for an invite but then I randomly got one in the mail (at least I don’t think anyone invited me…). Now thinking back, I did sign up to get a preview of some Google product but I thought that I had signed up for Google Voice hmm.
Now, I’ve played around with Google Wave and it doesn’t jump out at me as a tool that I can actually use. Is it some new form of communication and collaboration that will revoluntionize the world? If so, then I don’t get it. It feels like a easy-to-use version of a wiki that integrates all different types of media – but you lose advanced control of your content (I just want to re-order the contents of my wave!!).
My recent idea is to use Google Wave to do trip collaboration and planning. The wiki aspect of it is helpful, but it still can’t replace the power and simplicity of a spreadsheet!
