If you haven’t been keeping up with the Toronto Maple Leaf’s off-season activities, then you are going to be in for a very big surprise come October.
Kubina has said Sayonara (well maybe not that) and so far he is the only major buh-bye (although we have said bye to a lot of former leafs in the past 2 years: Gill, Wellwood, Sundin, Antropov, etc) . But we all expect Kaberle to be on the move very soon because we have become laden with about 20 defencemen.
I was surprised when Burke signed Mike Komisarek and even more surprised when we signed Francois Beaucheman. These are solid veterans to add to support a Stanley Cup contender, not to build a team around – but Burke’s message is that he wants to make the Leafs a tough team to play against. Sorry MTL and OTT, you are going to be crushed.
Even with all of these changes, I’m not convinced that I would be interested in watching the Leafs next year. We have a gritty defense, 3 2nd-string goaltenders and absolutely no stars (I don’t even need to precede that with super-, that’s how bad it is).
If you’ve been missing the moves, here’s your cheat sheet.
