For Truffles, I brought my dSLR but for Arriba, I was feeling lazy and brought my parents’ p&s. It was my first time really using the A570IS and I wanted to try out its IS capability. Taking pictures of food in low-light restaurants is the perfect use for IS as it’s meant to reduce camera shake which occurs when if the shutter speed is slow; but what most people forget is that it only reduces you, the photographer’s shake and doesn’t do a thing to help the subject’s movement. So if you’re trying to take a picture of a moving car at night, IS won’t help you, but if you take a picture of stationary food (I hope it’s not moving…) in low light, it should do some good.
That said, I didn’t get good results. I ended up deleting most of my pictures because there was still motion blur. In retrospect, I should have checked to see what ISO the auto-ISO defaulted too, maybe I would have had better luck if I pushed it to ISO400. So in conclusion, it’s better to stick with the dSLR.
