I find columns such as Dear Prudence (and forerunners such as Dear Abby etc) interesting not so much for the advice given by them but to experience the lives of others in a vicarious way. It’s kind of like retro-Jerry Springer without all the live action. The actual responses don’t matter as much, but I suppose it does contribute; because the new Dear Prudence writer clearly is not as interesting.
