School work has been a distant memory this year. I completed the “work” for my degree last year, which consisted of writing and getting my thesis reviewed and presenting my MASc seminar. My courses were done so long ago, that I don’t remember what I took. And aside from my struggles to actually submit my thesis, I haven’t even thought about school for a few months.
So what have I been doing with my time? It’s true that I’ve been trying to find new hobbies, but that’s not because I have a lot of time idling at home. Actually, I don’t have a lot of time for new hobbies, if I want to keep my existing ones because I started working full-time immediately after returning from Calgary.
I’m not sure what grad students are supposed to do in the time between when they’ve completed their thesis and Convocation (which occurs in either June or October). Maybe they’re supposed to publish more papers, maybe they’re supposed to look for jobs. Fortunately for me, I had a job lined up so I could start right away (well after taking an extended Christmas vacation). Although, I kind of regret not taking a few months off and traveling instead of beginning my 40-year long wait until retirement, but I didn’t have money to do that anyways. Working, and the associated income is particularly helpful since I have a wedding to pay for, and I can’t rely on AdSense revenue.
