Well, well, well. What do we do about these Leafs that instill false hope and are chronically disappointing? Here is my 7-point plan to make the Leafs a better team than they are today.

1. Get rid of Pat Quinn

We need a coach with a more hands-on approach to coaching, we don’t have a team of superstars so you can’t just sit back, let them play and hope to win. Speaking of coaches, perhaps Gretzky may be available?

2. Develop talent from within
The Leafs are one of the richest teams in the league, so we have the ability (and do) sign a lot of free agents. Maybe that’s not the best way to do things? I know that we saw the Jays do this in the early 90s, but it hasn’t worked out for the Leafs the past few years has it? We have some talent from within, so give them some playing them and rebuild.

3. Say bye to Belfour, Antropov, Tucker
Belfour had a decent run, but now he’s too old. Antropov always had potential, but it never seems to surface. Tucker is a cry baby and a diver whom we are better off without regardless of his scoring ability.

4. Say bye to Tie Domi
This guy gets his own point. So what if he’s a fan favorite, I think any fan would be happier if we won the Cup, and having the over-rated Tie around will not do it. He’s too old and small to be an enforcer now so they say that he’s more multi-dimensional, I think a better term would be “sucks”.

5. Get Sundin some wingers
We are always looking for good wingers to play with Sundin, but we never seem to have the right fit. Even when we had a almost-prime Mogilny, he hardly played on Sundin’s line. Why? Find him some good people to play with already!

6. Sign some quality free agent defencemen
This seemingly contradicts one of my previous points, but our defense prospects are too far from pro to do any good. Use some of that money and get us some good (Jovocop, Chara, Redden, and Lidstrom are all unrestricted in the offseason).

7. Play the entire season like they did the last 10 games

8-0-2 in their last 10 games. Wow. I wonder how Quinn motivated the troops to do that, and why he couldn’t motivate them previously.
