Yesterday, I went to Waterloo, parked, ran around and did a lot of waiting in order to complete yet another milestone towards graduation. There is an inordinate number of signatures and sign-offs that are required to actually hand in my thesis. Not that I was even handing in my thesis, I was just handing in a copy for display (and critique by my examining committee). This involved getting 3 initials. The first one was from my supervisor which was easy. The second was from a professor who was in Greece. Not a problem, because the admin said I could substitute an email for the initial. But instead, I just visited him on Monday since he was in Waterloo for the next little while.
The last one was supposed to be easiest seeing as he was at IBM. But the day that I had everything ready, he was in London. Ok, so I thought I would go the email route. This would have worked except that he inexplicably did not reply to his email on Friday or on Monday, although he should have been at work. So, I was in Waterloo and wanting to get everything done, and had to call him to see what was up. Apparently, he did send the emails, but the Waterloo email servers decided to eat them as SPAM (I never did find them, I guess Engmail was hungry). But, he sent a follow-up and things were good.
So with that done, as well as the other paperwork that needed to be signed by both the department and the faculty, I completed what is hopefully my second last milestone.
