I’ve come to realize that Winterlicious is just an excuse to go eat at finer dinning establishments around the city. But each year, I still get suckered into doing so. Here’s my blog on last year’s last year’s Winterlicious (although the pictures no longer work/exist). This first year Winterlicious of this year was lunch at Bb33 Bistro (what a horrible website) at the Delta Chelsea on Gerrard. Surprisingly, the set lunch was only $15 so it seemed like a good deal.

We made reservations for noon and showed up late at about 12:20. When the concierge came to great us, she made a mention of wondering where we were since we didn’t show up at the reservation time; but we were standing around for an additional 5 minutes waiting for her and went in to an empty restaurant. She should have been glad that we showed up at all!

Since there were only two choices for each course, between Pauline and I we tried everything. The soup of the day was a Carrot & Ginger soup which was pretty bland (but saved by the pepper I added). The alternative starter was Tender Greens with White Balsamic Dressing which is your generic salad.

The main course was either the Fusilli with Sweet Italian Sausage, Braised Beef, Roasted Mushrooms and Tomato Herb Coulis. This was again nothing special, and something that you could make at home. I ordered the Grilled Salmon with Rice and Marinated Chick Peas, served with Daily Vegetables, which is pictured on the right. The salmon itself was decent, but I was not a fan of the rice since it was Gwai-Lo rice. Also the daily vegetables tasted like they were freeze-dried and wasn’t very good.

For dessert, it was a choice between the Crème Caramel with Fresh Strawberries or the dessert of the day which was a Chocolate Mousse with Raspberries (pictured on the left). These were both pretty good, although I wasn’t a fan of the caramel in general.

The service was prompt and professional, although that may have been due to the fact that there were only 6 tables between 2 servers. I think it was a good value because the food, while not spectacular, was not bad; plus it was cheap. I’m surprised that it wasn’t more busy.
