This year’s Christmas vacation is a bit weird. First, the school schedule is awkward because December 23rd fell on a Friday. That means there was school until the 23rd (i.e., right up to Christmas Eve). The side effect to this is that the two weeks of Christmas vacation lasts a long time – the first day back isn’t until January 9th!

This allowed us to actually stay in town for the actual Christmas, and Boxing day/week (although some Boxing weeks now apparently start on the 23rd)! Our Christmas vacation trip hasn’t started until now but today we are off to Europe again – for the third time this year!

This time we are heading over to Spain. There was a flight deal earlier this year amongst many of the American airlines to Amsterdam, with a free stop over. So we routed our flights in such a way that we stop over in Barcelona for a week before making it to Amsterdam. We stay a night in Amsterdam, and then head back home! It’s a bit crazy and unintuitive, but that allowed our flights to be under $1300 for two people including taxes and fees!

We plan to stay over in Barcelona for New Years Eve, then make a side trip down to Morocco before heading to Madrid for the remainder of the trip. Spain is probably the last (new) place we need to go to in Europe but Morocco will be interesting because it will be our first trip to Africa.
